Bromine tablets are a combination of several chemicals named 1-Bromo-3-Chloro-5,5Dimethylhydantoin! These tablets can only be used in the feeder device. Dose required number of tablets and resume circulation. If there is no automatic controller, the levels of bromine in the spa can be raised or lowered buy changing the flow rate through the feeder. The bromine dissolves in the spa water and produces hypobromous acid; this is a compound that will kill all the bacteria. This is called “total bromine” and this is what you will be testing for. You need a residual between 3-5mg/l. Occasionally there may build up of unwanted by-products from the bromination process. Like chlorine, bromine will be destroyed by sunlight but at a much, much slower rate.
